In clinic we use OSTENIL PLUS which we regard as the most effective hyaluronic acid injection as it is a higher effective dose than others on the market along with added benefit of manitol.

What is hyaluronic acid and manitol?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a viscoelastic solution for injection, HA is a naturally occurring all over the body, especial within a joint capsule like the knee. It is this that diminishes during degenerative joint changes. Its key properties are to keep the knee lubricated. HA naturally breaks down in the body during metabolism and it is then replaced. However as we get older our metabolism slows down, replacement of HA is less often which results in less lubrication.

How does OSTENIL PLUS work?
OSTENIP PLUS is a clear medicine which contains hyaluronate, a pure animal free substance that is completely biocompatible and imitates the lubricant in the knee joint. Highly purified sodium hyaluronate can ameliorate (make something unsatisfactory or bad, better)Ithe Viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid within the knee joint. This improves its lubricating and shock absorbing functions and reduces mechanical overload of the joint. As a rule this results in decreased pain and an improvement in joint mobility which may last for several months after a treatment cycle.In osteoarthritis, the synovial fluid in the knee is much less with no lubrication. This makes the knee largely susceptible to any pain as there is no barrier to cushion the bones.the hyaluronate reduces the pressure on the knee joint allowing it to move freely without pain.
Who should not take OSTENIL PLUS?
Individuals who sensitive or have known allergies to drugs should take care and seek medical advise before taking Ostenil. Ostenil, should be avoided if there are any infections at the knee joint.
Pregnant and breast feeding mothers should avoid using Ostenil as well as children and anyone with rheumatoid arthritis or Brechterew disease (also known as, Marie Strumpell disease,rheumatoid spondyitis and anklosing spondilitis).
Are there any associated side effects with OSTENIL PLUS?
Redness and selling, as well as pain and increased sensation of heat can be felt at the area of injection at the knee point. An ice pack should be applied to the knee after to increase blood flow to the area and significantly increase the well being of the site.
How is OSTENIL PLUS administered?
OSTENIL PLUS should be injected into the joint cavity away from the veins and away from the muscle tissues. It can be injected as a single dose or a course of 3 injections once a week.

1ml isotonic solution (pH7.3) contains 20.0mg sodium hyaluronate
from fermentation and sodium chloride,sodium monohydrogenphosphate,
sodium dihydrogenphosphate, mannitol and water for injection.

Injections can be performed the same day as consultation if patient is a suitable candidate, and take roughly 10 minutes to perform however we ask patients to remain in the waiting area for up to 30 minutes post injection.
